The “South Russian Collection of Probiotic Microorganisms” (hereinafter referred to as the Collection of the SRCPM) is part of the Research Laboratory “Center for Agrobiotechnology” of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Don State Technical University” (hereinafter referred to as the SRCPM DSTU).

The regulation on the “South Russian collection of probiotic microorganisms” was approved in 2022. The collection fund of microorganisms was created in the Research Laboratory “Center of Agrobiotechnology”; a significant part of the collection fund of the Collection of the YURKPM was isolated, investigated and described during the implementation of the project “Veterinary probiotic drugs aimed at modulating animal health”, conducted under the leadership of the leading scientist Mikhail Leonidovich Chikindas (2019-2022).

The project received the support of the Government of the Russian Federation (Agreement No. 075-15-2019-1880) within the framework of the federal project “Development of human Capital in the interests of regions, industries and the Research and Development Sector” of the national project “Science and Universities”: creation of a world-class laboratory under the leadership of leading scientists with a worldwide reputation.

The purpose of the creation of the Collection is to collect and maintain, with a guarantee of reproduction and authenticity, non-pathogenic microorganisms isolated from natural, man-made and anthropogenic environments that have signs of probiotic microorganisms and have the potential to be used in agriculture, ecology, industry, other sectors of the national economy, as well as to create new biological technologies.

The collection of YURKPM (NIL CBT DSTU) has the necessary resources: premises, a full range of modern methods and scientific and laboratory equipment (boxes for replanting, thermostats, anaerostats, cold storage chambers, cryophages, etc.), consumables (nutrient media, reagents, dishes, etc.), for the preservation and maintenance of storage facilities. To preserve the collection fund, various methods of cultivation and maintenance of microorganisms (depending on their characteristics) and long-term storage modes, including cryopreserved, are used. Molecular genetic studies of strains of microorganisms are carried out on the basis of the BRC VKPM “GosNIIGenetics”

The main directions of scientific research:

Fundamental research on the complex study of the biology of probiotic microorganisms.
Comprehensive research conducted by the Research Laboratory “Center of Agrobiotechnology” and using the UNU “MicroJKT”.
Screening work to identify collection cultures with specified properties.
Development of methodological approaches to the creation and implementation of new pro-, pre-, syn-, meta- and postbiotics.
Conducting research on the plans of scientific research works of DSTU, state target programs, projects of the Ministry of Education and Science, RNF, agreements on scientific and technical cooperation, economic agreements, etc.
